Grenville Johnston

Grenville Johnston qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1968. He was born in Nairn but moved to Moray when he was six months old. He has lived in Moray ever since apart from periods at school in Edinburgh (Fettes College) and his apprenticeship for five years with Scott-Moncrieff & Co.
After two years with Thomson McLintock & Co in Glasgow he returned home to the family firm of W D Johnston & Carmichael, founded by his father in 1935. He became Senior Partner in 1975, retiring from the role in 2000, when he became a consultant until 2005. Meanwhile the firm had become the largest independent firm of CA’s in Scotland.
He was President of the institute of Chartered Accountants from 1999/2000.
Grenville has also served in the Territorial Army for many years, holding the rank of Lt Colonel.
He is involved with many Moray charities including Elgin Museum and Morayvia. He is President of Moray Scouts.
He served as H M Lord-Lieutenant of Moray from 2005 until he retired in 2020.
