Roddy Burns

Roddy has over 40 years of public service experience, latterly until 2024 as Chief Executive of Moray Council, working collaboratively and in partnership with public, private and voluntary organisations delivering public services.

Born in Glasgow where he spent his early years he subsequently resided in Ayrshire.

On completion of his secondary education there he studied law at the University of Aberdeen graduating in 1981.

Following a period of postgraduate legal studies at the University, he moved to Moray in 1982 to take up a traineeship as a solicitor with Moray District Council. In 1984 on completion of his training he embarked on a career in local government with the District Council until 1996. Following local government re-organisation that year he remained in Moray to take up promoted post with the Moray Council.

During his career, prior to his appointment as Chief Executive in 2012, he has held a range of. senior executive posts including Head of Service, Director and Acting chief Executive.

He is a Member of the Law Society of Scotland and a Past Honorary Secretary of the Scottish Branch of the Society of Local Authority Chief Executives.
