This University of the Arts London (UAL) Level 2 Award and Diploma in Art and Design is broadly comparable to SCQF Level 5 and is ideal for anyone with an interest in the subject.

You will explore the materials, methods and processes that support art and design activities.

It will provide the perfect opportunity for school leavers or mature learners to get started in art and design, as you will explore and develop the skills, knowledge and understanding required for progression within art and design education.

The qualification structure will provide a sound base of skills and knowledge, will enhance self-confidence, and convey an understanding of the career demands and opportunities within art and design.

Entry requirements

  • Three National 4s (including Art and English)
  • You must also submit a portfolio of work.
  • Applications are encouraged from prospective students without the standard entry requirements as listed above.

  • Introduction to materials, processes and technical skills in art and design
  • Introduction to contextual research in art and design
  • Introduction to drawing skills
  • Introduction to communication skills in art and design
  • Solving 2D creative problems
  • Solving 3D creative problems
  • Solving time-based creative problems
  • Developing and producing a personal project in art and design

Equipment

You will need a starter materials pack for this course. These packs are available to buy on site (approx. £120), as well as other materials from our small shop. If you qualify for a bursary these costs will be covered.

This is a practical based course with face-to-face classes on campus supplemented with our Virtual Learning Environment (VLE).

If you are studying part time and are on low income or in receipt of certain benefits your course fees may be covered by a fee waiver.

What can I do on completion of my course?

On successful completion of this course, you may progress on to The University of the Arts London (UAL): Level 3 Diploma in Art & Design (SCQF Level 6).

Please note that you MUST successfully complete UAL Level 2 Award in Semester 1 to be able to progress into Semester 2 and onto UAL Level 2 Diploma.
