How would my child benefit from this programme?
This programme will benefit every child who chooses to become involved. The Foundation Apprenticeship programme is designed to give all pupils in the senior phase at school a chance to gain valuable industry recognised qualifications as well as work place experience.
The Foundation Apprenticeship will enhance pupils learning and can be studied at the same time as National 5s and Highers.
The programme will give your child a head start when they leave school and are looking for employment or entering further or higher education. The experience gained from studying for the Foundation Apprenticeship means that your child will be more confident about the routes they have chosen for their future career and will have the work experience many others may not have.
What could my child do after completing this programme?
There are many different routes your child could take after completing this programme including work, further training, university or college.
If your child is keen to undertake a Modern Apprenticeship, the Foundation Apprenticeship provides the starting elements making them more attractive to employers allowing them to fast track an apprenticeship.
The completion of a Foundation Apprenticeship will provide your child with some valuable work experience which is attractive to further and higher education providers who often look for this type of experience as evidence of commitment.
Similarly, if your child is looking to enter employment, the practical experience they can gain through the Foundation Apprenticeship along with the additional work based qualifications will be attractive to employers as your child will have gained valuable practical experience, lack of which is often a barrier to many young people looking to secure employment.
