What are the benefits of doing a College course?

Our courses help you progress in your chosen career path by developing life and work skills. They aim to: -

  • broaden your curriculum choices;
  • enrich your educational experiences;
  • help you to develop knowledge and skills for employment and further study, such as analysing and problem solving;
  • help ease your transition from school to further learning or employment;
  • help you with life skills such as responsibility, attendance, punctuality and independent travel

There are many elements to consider before making your senior phase decision, but we’re here to help!

  • which subjects are you best at?
  • which subjects do you enjoy most?
  • which options will lead to a promising career and make you stand out more than your peers?

Your Guidance teacher will be able to help answer some of these questions for you, and depending on which subjects you choose to follow, you may be able to study in College or online through blended learning.

Interview process

All applicants will be invited to attend an interview. It is important you come prepared; bring notes from your personal statement and details about yourself and why you would like to study your chosen course. There are a number of courses that have less places available than applications, make sure you stand out from your peers.

Your school will provide the date of your Interview or alternatively check our notice board. Interviews will be face to face unless COVID restrictions forbid, then it will take place virtually.

You will receive an offer via the email you supplied on your application. If you have been unsuccessful in the course you have applied for you may receive an alternative offer or asked to apply the following year. You must update your guidance teacher or email schools.moray@uhi.ac.uk if you accept your place on the course.

Most of our courses will take place at our main campus on Moray Street. Construction and Engineering courses take place at the Technology Centre at our Linkwood campus in New Elgin.

Your school will provide transport that will ensure you get to Moray College UHI for your start time. There is no cost to pupils.

Your lecturer will support you through your course. The Schools Team will keep your school up to date with your progress throughout your college year. If you have any additional support needs, your school will provide information and a member of our ELS Team will be in touch to put in provisions to ensure you are supported throughout your time at College.

  • You will be learning in an adult environment and treated the same as other students in the College
  • All students are expected to behave in a manner that fosters respect and understanding to all members of our community. Check out the Code of Conduct for full expectations and considered misconduct - www.moray.uhi.ac.uk/scc
  • You don’t need to wear uniform on the days you attend College as you are classed as a College student. Some courses require you to wear PPE which will be provided. Sports courses you will need to wear sportswear and bring water.
  • Absences are reported to your school in the morning if you are not in class
  • Tracking Reports are completed by your lecturer to update your school/parent on your progress at college throughout the year – just the same as school!
  • Your College course is SQA certificated and if you pass, will appear on your SQA Certificate along with your Nationals, Highers and Advanced Highers
