Graduate Thoughts: Heather, HNC Fitness, Health and Exercise
Our HNC in Fitness, Health and Exercise empowers you to motivate and guide individuals on their fitness journeys. We had a chat with graduate Heather to learn all about her experience and how her studies lead to her role as Freelance Fitness Instructor.
Hi Heather, can you start by sharing with us why you chose to study with us?
I am a mum of 5 with a passion for fitness and health, I love to help others and ignite their passion for exercise, I chose UHI Moray as it was the closest college and had an excellent nursery for my twins.
After completing my HNC I moved onto study a PDA in Personal Training and a Diploma in Sport and Fitness.
How would you describe your experience?
Honestly there is nothing about my time at college that I could fault. The teaching and the support from all the lecturers in the sports department was amazing.
I absolutely would not be the fitness instructor I am today without this course. It has become far too accessible to go online and do weekend courses, but I truly believe this course is worth its weight in gold and I cannot recommend it enough.
Did you undertake a placement or any work experience during your studies?
Yes, I completed work experience with a local fitness class instructor
When you started the HNC, did you have a clear idea on what career you wanted?
Not particularly no. I thought I would do the course and see where it led me
Did your studies help you with your career?
They have helped massively as without this course I wouldn’t have half the knowledge or confidence to be where I am now. The course provided me with all the tools I required to go out into the real world and get a job in the fitness industry.
What were the highlights of your time studying at UHI Moray?
The friendships I made, the opportunity to go to Prague with the Sports and Fitness Department and the experience and confidence I gained throughout my time at UHI Moray.
