Meet Katy: Career Ready Intern

Meet Katy, who joined teams across our Moray Street campus as part of her Career Ready internship.

Hi, my name is Katy and I have recently finished my high school journey after spending 5 years at Buckie High School, I have currently finished my 4-week Career Ready internship with UHI Moray. Though my internship I have worked alongside the Marketing and Business Development team, DYW Moray, and the Site Assistants.

Before my internship, I studied multiple subjects throughout school although main focus was business relating subjects, when I was handed this opportunity, I believed it was a great experience to increase my knowledge in the workplace, marketing and business as a whole, all of these things are to hopefully aid my future career.

I have thoroughly enjoyed my experience with UHI Moray as it has increased skills such as, confidence, ICT and the mechanisms of an office environment overall. Throughout my time I have completed tasks such as creating reports, editing documents, social media reviewing and comparisons.

I believe the Career Ready experience is worth considering as this can be tailored into any career path and is incredible for developing your knowledge into any sector, I feel my internship has guided and built me up for my future and will be hugely beneficial for any employment I may have.

Every year various departments on campus support the Career Ready programme 4 weeklong paid internship. Giving young people of school age the opportunity to prepare for work this programme also includes a 2-year mentorship. This mentorship is provided by our Marketing and Communications Advisor, Emma, having previously been overseen by Jackie Andrews, Head of Academic Partnerships.
