New session starts at Moray College UHI

Issued 5 September 2012

Students have been returning to Moray College UHI this week as session 2012-13 gets underway. Approximately 1,500 full-time students and many more part-time students are expected to enrol over the next few weeks on a wide range of further and higher education courses.

Principal, Mike Devenney:

"This session we are offering about 900 full-time places on further education courses and about 800 full-time places on the higher education courses that arise from our University of the Highlands and Islands status. In this regard, it is noteworthy that we expect to be enrolling over 250 full-time students on degree courses this session, a figure that should rise to over well over 300 when part-time student enrolments are included.’

Our curriculum has undergone a significant transformation from last session and we are offering many new further education courses such as a range of entry level “Steps to Work” courses, National Certificates in Events Co-ordination and Acting and Theatre Performance. We are also offering new higher education courses such as the HNC in Applied Sciences and the BEng in Engineering."

Looking more broadly at the forthcoming session, Mr Devenney said that:

"We look forward to agreement being reached on the Moray Economic Strategy and expect to play our full part in the delivery of this as part of the Moray Economic Partnership. We’ll soon be a third of the way towards the completion of the Moray Life Sciences Centre and remain confident that this will be completed in time for the start of next session."

Returning to the new intake of students, Mr Devenney emphasised the importance of them getting off to the best possible start:

"The College very much believes that students can benefit considerably from an effective induction programme and so have carefully planned for this to happen. This includes a range of course and cross-college activities, including “welcome breakfasts” that will take place throughout the induction period in our “Aye Pod” café."
