Amy wins GOLD in Nevada
Accountants don’t always lead exciting lives but here’s one that does!

Amy Barker, a second year HND Accounting student, recently attended a competition in the United States of America representing the British Armed Services against the US Air Force and beat them on their own turf. Amy was invalided out of the Royal Navy with a leg problem but has not given up on her team spirit and zest for life.
Amy said “I didn’t think I would be selected and applied just to see. I was surprised when I was notified that I was going to go.”
The competition was in Nevada and when I asked Amy how they selected the sports that she was to take part in, Amy said “I just ticked them all because I don’t want to be in the stand watching, I would rather be doing.”
Amy took part in eight disciplines including cycling and swimming, which she has always enjoyed, and also shot put and discus, which when I ask her if she had thrown them before the reply was “No but I’ll have a go”.
Amy explained, “It was the Air Force trials at Nellie Air Force base, Nevada, for wounded warrior games 2017. Everyone in the U.K. Team has been injured through serving in the military. Some are still serving but most have been medically discharged."
Well done, and Amy is not too bad at accounts either!
