50th Birthday Logo Competition
Moray College UHI will be 50 years old in 2021. The college was officially opened on the 16th November 1971 as Elgin Technical College and since then has undergone a number of transformations over the last 50 years to what it is today - part of the University of the Highlands and Islands, which itself will be 10 years old next year.
Despite its growth over the last 50 years Moray College UHI remains closely linked to the local community and these links continue to grow and strengthen. It is for that reason we decided to invite our Moray Primary Schools to take part in a competition to design a new logo for the 50th birthday celebrations.
We were delighted to receive 94 entries even though this made it very difficult for the judging panel to shortlist to a final five. However, we did find a worthy winner and many congratulations to Rebecca Morrice from Craigellachie Primary who designed a very eye-catching logo which we will use on all of our marketing and promotion for our birthday celebrations.
We have a number of plans for 2021 to celebrate our birthday including inviting ex-staff, students and members of the Moray community to send us anything they may have about the college marking its 50 years. This can include stories, photos, events, etc which we plan to use to create an exhibition. A public call will be put out in early January through our social media channels and local media sponsors – the Northern Scot.
Other plans which are being considered throughout the year to include: working with local businesses across Moray to develop competitions i.e.: treasure hunts, linking with existing community events, running a video blog competition to name but a few. We are also hoping to hold an awards dinner on the day of our 50th birthday to an invited audience of people who have contributed to the college since it opened.
