Can you tell us a little about yourself?
I’m Jérémie Fernandes, Library Officer within Student Services at Moray College UHI. After a degree and a Masters in Politics, I did a Post Graduate Diploma at Robert Gordon University. Through my studies, I had quite a lot of help from Library teams. I enjoy helping people find the right information for their research needs, so I feel at home in my current position.
Describe a typical day in your line of work?
On top of direct enquiries form students and staff, there is a lot of work going on in the background - like ordering resources, discussing contracts with suppliers, regular meetings with other librarians in UHI.
What key skills do you require to do your job effectively?
Being able to multi-task is probably the most important quality.
What is the best thing about our courses and studying with us?
You’ll find a whole range of courses from casual part-time courses to PhDs on your doorstep.
What is the best part of your job?
The best part of my job is working with a great team that is 100% dedicated to helping students. The Student Services staff are absolute stars.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I am a football referee so you will find me on a Highland League football pitch most Saturdays and Sundays.
What would people to surprised to know about you?
I speak 4 languages (French, English, Portuguese, Spanish) and trying to learn Navajo on Duolinguo.
What is your favourite meal?
Pasta with Pesto, red onions, olive oil and red vinegar.
If you were a superhero, what type of powers would you have?
“Spiderman, Spiderman, does whatever a spider can

What is your favourite song?
The whole Black Album by Jay-Z is a masterpiece.
What is the best advice you ever received and who was it from?
“Being kind and polite won’t make everything right. But it’s a good start.“ - it comes from Paddington Twitter page, which I heartily recommend.
What advice do you have for our students?
The next year will be daunting given the current pandemic, but Moray College UHI’s staff will do their best to make sure you have a great experience with us.
