Moray College UHI student sets new Guinness World Record
Rachael Routledge, a Moray College UHI student studying HNC Fitness, Health and Exercise, has just earned herself a place in the Guinness World Records.
Rachael took on a 123kg (19 stone) tyre at the Moray Sports Centre on 27 June, flipping it a whopping 221 times within an hour. The previous benchmark for females was 100.
Rachael aims to break down gender stereotypes in the fitness world to encourage other woman to work hard and achieve their goals.
She said:
It seems as though this story has touched so many people already which is amazing! I prepared by flipping the tyre 2 times per week and general resistance based training, also encompassing high intensity cardio where I could outwith the tyre training. I've received so much unexpected support, quite humbling to say the least. I wanted to get 220 flips, I had done just over 200 in training once before but I am really happy with 221!
I love studying at Moray College UHI, something I was apprehensive about was becoming a very mature student, but the lecturers are really supportive and are easy to approach!
Rachael was joined by one of her lecturers, Kelly McLaren, during the event who acted as adjudicator to ensure the Guinness World Record rules were being adhered to, along with a local police officer and RAF personnel.
Kelly McLaren, Deputy Head of Curriculum and Lecturer in Sport:
As a department we are extremely proud of what Rachael has achieved. She has shown a tremendous level of commitment and dedication in her training to produce a phenomenal result. Not only did she beat the record, but she beat it by over 100 flips. It’s going to be hard to beat! Some of our ex-students, that are now employees at the Moray Sports Centre, also helped Rachael with her training for the event. It’s great for us to see our students in employment and helping others to achieve amazing things!
