Refugees Celebrated at UHI Moray Supporting New Scots event
Funded by the Scottish Refugee Council, the project operated by our Employability Team supported displaced refugees primarily from Ukraine to integrate into their new lives here in Moray and find training and/or employment.
With 20 refugees in the programme the outcomes included: translation of qualifications to UK equivalents, entry into further and higher education, employment, work placement, social integration.
Held in the Alexander Graham Bell Centre the event brought refugees and their families together alongside organisations who have supported them during their journey including Moray Food Plus, Moray Leisure Centre and Business Gateway. They were also presented with certificates from David Patterson, Principal of UHI Moray.
‘We were delighted to have received funding to support the refugees who relocated to Moray. Many of them have high level qualifications from their home country but required support to integrate into their new lives in Moray. Many of the refugees had to leave family behind and were lost when they arrived so much of the support was emotional. The achievements of the refugees has been astonishing despite their challenges and it is a honour and privilege to have had the opportunity to be part of their journey’ Jacqui Taylor, Head of Marketing and External Relations, UHI Moray
