The dos of being a student
As a UHI Moray student you are expected to conduct yourself in an appropriate manner to other students, staff and external organisations. But what does that even mean? We’ve got your covered with our guide.
Give it your all
Hopefully your choice to study your course was because you wanted to. So why give it little effort? Instead give it your all.
- Show up to classes on time and prepared.
- Be inquisitive in classes and don’t be afraid to ask questions and share your thoughts and ideas.
- Connect with fellow classmates and support each other when times are hard or when help is needed.
- Engage with activities outside of the classroom. Join clubs, form a society or dive headfirst into work experience/volunteering opportunities.
You don’t have to be the ‘smartest’ or most active student, just be you. Put your all into your studies and know that it’s okay for your all to be different day by day.
Treat others with respect and kindness
As the phrase goes “treat others as you would want to be treated”. No matter your age, we all want to be treated with respect but how often do we openly give it to others?
By promoting kindness and being open to the thoughts and feelings of others we create an atmosphere of safety which is the perfect environment for learning. It allows everyone to focus better and better support you to achieve rather than dealing with behaviours.
Remember inappropriate behaviour can be regarded as a misconduct which may result in suspension, expulsion and loss of student support entitlement and funding.
Keep everything tidy
Similar to treating others with respect we expect our students to treat our campuses with respect. Afterall no, one wants to learn in a mess.
Quick ways to keep our campuses tidy:
- Pop rubbish in the bin
- Alert staff to any spillages
- Place chairs neatly under desks and tables
Its also important that you practice and support our work in promoting good hygiene when on campus. Wash your hands, use hand sanitiser and don’t intentionally clog toilets and drains.
By keeping our spaces tidy we support our estate teams in ensuring your safety and create a more inviting place to come to.
Smoking and drinking alcohol is prohibited
Boring, we know! However smoking (including e-cigarettes/vapes) or drinking is prohibited when on campus. This doesn’t just mean inside our buildings; our smoking policy applies to our campus grounds as well and we advise that if you are going to smoke to do so away from our buildings, entrances, walkways and bike sheds. Unsure on where our campus boundaries end? Speak to a member of staff.
By smoking off campus, you’ll show respect for other people’s health (and avoid being told off by staff at the bike sheds!).
