June Hyndman

June Hyndman is an experienced artist and teacher who embraces the concept of ‘Textile’ as encompassing the full range of 3-D and sculptural materials. After graduating from Glasgow School of Art with a First Class degree in Textiles she has worked, taught and exhibited in the Highlands and abroad.

Specialty

The tactility of textile processes and their unique capacity to convey the warp and weft of human relationships is at the heart of June’s work. As a specialist in weaving and stitch, she uses thread, hand-made papers and texture to create sculptural work with a powerful emotional content. The rich and multi-dimensional nature of textile provides an excellent medium for an exploration of the layers of human experience, as well as providing a physical link between the modern and the traditional. In the last few years her work has mined experiences of nurturing through the textile medium, exploring creation and creativity, human values and the precious. A recent focus for this work has been the indigenous American culture of the ‘cradleboard’ and the vessel, and she combines contemporary, hand-made and traditional materials to make human connections between cultures and across time. June works mainly to commission, and has work in private collections in Japan, Canada and Scotland.

Research

June teaches on the undergraduate curriculum in Fine Art at Moray School of Art.
