Blog: Justin Anderson, Engineering Performance (SCQF Level 5) Student
We had a chat with Justin, a Engineering Performance (SCQF Level 5) student to talk about his journey studying engineering at UHI Moray.
Hi! Could you start by introducing yourself?
Hi, Im Justin and I study Engineering Performance (SCQF Level 5)
Was engineering something you always wanted to study?
No, I had done a non-engineering course before this which I didn’t enjoy, however I have a background in heavy goods vehicle repair so I thought that I would benefit from studying this course.
What skills and experiences have you gained from the course?
I have gained units in machining, lathe work, mechanical assembly and a variety of welding processes. I have also gained academic units in maths, CADD, health and safety, etc. which would allow me to progress further.
How did you find the mode of teaching on the course and the support you received from your tutors and lecturers?
I found the teaching to be of a form I recognised from my previous experience and found it easy to settle in and get into my stride.
Now that the course is coming to an end what are your plans for the future?
As this course directly maps to Modern Apprenticeships in Engineering, I have secured an Apprenticeship as a Fabricator/Welder. I also know that one of my Lecturers has worked directly with the employer to help form the content of the continuing apprenticeship.
Do you have any advice would you give to those considering studying at UHI Moray?
If you want to give yourself a chance to really sell yourself to employers, and happy to apply yourself, this is a good course for you.
Lastly, what three words would you use to describe the Engineering Performance course?
Engaging, Enjoyable, Worthwhile
You can begin your engineering journey with an introduction to the field, gain recognised qualifications for work, or study for a specialised degree, full or part time at our Linkwood Technology Centre.
