HNC Beauty Therapy students at the Mandarin Oriental Spa

Moray College UHI HNC Beauty Therapy students enjoyed a trip to London during the Easter break.

The quartet attended a CPD course in Ayurvedic practice with Deepa Apte; visited the Mandarin Oriental Spa; experienced a thai massage treatment in the Thai Square Spa and had a guided tour of The Sanctuary in Covent Garden. The group kept a “Road Trip Diary” blog detailing all their activities including uploading images of their experiences. The opportunity to visit and talk with staff in the Spa Industry proved a hit with lots of information on the business aspect; the history of the companies which was really interesting and career options within the company which the group found inspirational. Kasia Klonowska had a favourite “Sanctuary Spa –a huge space , massive business, very busy, loads of people....they have 86 therapists and 48 treatment rooms. The history of this spa is charming....

"If I had been given an opportunity to book a spa treatment again I would definitively go for the Sanctuary Spa.” Connie MacLeod reflected “I think the Mandarin Oriental was so special. It made me feel even more privileged to have seen this spa as I knew there was no other way I could get the chance to see a spa like this (so high end). I loved it and am so grateful that all of the spas were able to take us in and give us such a valuable experience”

Shanna Christie on her Thai Square experience “I loved the look to this spa, it was lovely dark wood and reds. It looked amazing very well designed, a place for everything. Organised looking, products were lovely the atmosphere was calm, room was warm and smelt lovely”.

Audrey Wallace felt that “Speaking to the therapists and listening to their hints and tips to create a successful and fulfilling career has motivated me to start applying for spa jobs and conducting my research into different spa's and career choices from this! Spa work has always interested me however visiting these spa's (which was an incredible opportunity) has made me realise that spa is where I would love to work!”
