Moray College UHI Plumbing Apprentice scoops Scottish Skillplumb award

James Parry a 3rd year apprentice plumber with Neil Hadden, Plumbers was the winner of the Scottish heat of the Skillplumb Competition which this year was held at Moray College Technology Centre.

James, who attended Elgin High School won the first prize in both the leadwork and copper pipework sections and therefore the overall competition.

There were 10 other apprentices from across Scotland taking part in the competition. Skillplumb is run by SNIPEF (Scottish and Northern Ireland Plumbing Employers Federation), and is open to apprentice plumbers across Scotland, with entries invited from all Scottish Colleges.

The competition has been designed to promote competence and excellence across the Plumbing industry. Competitors will undertake a series of practical and theoretical tests, which include copper pipework and sheet lead exercises, based on everyday plumbing tasks.

James will now go onto the UK round in November as the Scottish representative and if successful may progress onto the 2015 Worldskills Competition.
