Elgin City Centre Regeneration Plan - Student Workshop

Last Friday a group of over 50 students and a few staff participated in a workshop facilitated by Peter McCaughey and Lauren Coleman from Waveparticle the consultants working with the Moray Economic Partnership to develop the ‘Elgin City Centre Regeneration Plan. The plan focusses on the future vision for Lossie Green, Cooper Park and their relationship with other parts of the city centre.

This vibrant ‘hands on’ event gave students the opportunity to give their views on how Elgin should be redeveloped.  This they certainly did, each putting their ideas of what Elgin city centre could look like in the future by producing drawings, working on a 3m map and taking part in short film interviews. A big thanks to everyone that supported the event and a special mention to the three Digital Media students, Deanne Brown, Nikki Taylor and Sorcha Henderson who were very professional and accredit to the College.

As a follow on from the workshop Waveparticle are keen to invite a smaller group of staff and students to attend the Charrette (workshop) Event in St Giles Church on Wednesday 4th March. This is being organised by Moray Council, on behalf of the Moray Economic Partnership.  Attendance at the workshop will provide an opportunity for students or staff to contribute directly to the Charrette and present their ideas.

The strategic aim is to develop the Masterplan for a mixed residential, leisure, arts, civic and cultural office and retail use, creating a vibrant place where people will live, work, shop and socialise, integrating the area with the rest of the city centre and with Cooper Park with a particular focus on the provision of a 21st Century, high quality civic and arts hub that serves Moray.

If this is something you would like to take part in then please email Brian Currie on brian.currie.moray@uhi.ac.uk  and he will forward your interest to Waveparticle.
