Food and Beverage Student of the Year 2013.

Tanya MacKenzie who I am sure many of you have seen and been expertly served by in the Beechtree has been awarded the Food and Beverage Student of the Year 2013.

Tanya from Burghead, is 17 years old and has been at Moray College UHI since she was 14. Starting on the Skills for Work - Skills Programme, Tanya attended college 1 day per week initially, undertaking Hospitality training while still a school. Her ambition was always to enter the Hospitality industry as she loved cooking from a very young age following in her Mothers footsteps, who works as a chef.

After Tanya finished school she enrolled as a full time student at Moray College UHI on the level 1 Diploma in Professional Cookery and Professional Food and Beverage Service. After successfully completing the level 2 Tanya has now started the HNC Events course with a view to doing a degree in Hospitality and Tourism.

Tanya credits much of her successful progression to her lecturers, Tami Wilson and Lauren Bochel who were a great support when things got a bit much and encouraged her to stick with her studies.Tanya as quoted here is very proud of her achievement:

‘Being able to say that I am away to do my HNC makes me feel proud of myself. I never thought that I would see myself get to this level and with there not being many jobs out there, it makes sense to go on at College and gain more qualifications, which could then lead to a better chance of a job later in life. I am really excited about starting my new course and making new friends’

One of Tanya’s Hospitality Lecturers, Tami Wilson said 'in the 4 years Tanya has developed into a conscientious young woman who has always put in the extra mile. Her Exemplary attendance has helped her achieve her goals’

Tanya will be presented with her award at the Moray College Graduation on the 10th October.
