A team of students from Moray College are entering the national “MoneyforLife” challenge.

Money for Life is a competition which has been developed by Lloyds Banking Group to find the most innovative ways volunteers can devise, to improve their own money management skills and those of their communities.

From budget fashion shows to the perfect recipes for “skinny” meals (costing pence, not pounds!), the competition has attracted a large number of entries since it was launched in 2011.

“Moray’s Money” will be getting back to basics. The group will create a comprehensive, eight-hour course covering all that students need to know. From spotting supermarket ‘dud’ deals to planning for a future pension, the course will be designed as a one-stop shop to learn some of the best money saving tips as well as information about where to go for help and advice.

An Open Day is planned for the 5th March 2013 to showcase the work of the group. Banks will be invited to attend so that students can find out more about their services.

The goal is to equip individuals to make sound financial choices, working through the challenges together and making sure that, after leaving, students are aware of useful resources to support on-going money management and avoid unwise choices, such as using high cost loan companies.

If you would like to take part in the development of this course thorugh your own experiences good or bad then please contact Joyce.Cartwright@moray.uhi.ac.uk, leave a phone message at 01343 576000 or post on the Moray College website, www.facebook.com/MoraysMoney.
